ECDC Release Destinations
Eddy County operates the adult and juvenile detention complex on North Main Street in Carlsbad. A release date in the county portal marks the end of that booking episode. It does not, by itself, say that the person walked out to the community. A bond, own-recognizance order, sentence completion, dismissal, or other court order can authorize community release. The same local closing event can record a move to the Alternative Sentencing Unit, treatment, another county, the New Mexico Corrections Department, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or the U.S. Marshals Service.
The held-for agency and out-of-facility categories provide useful clues. The public configuration includes ECDC, the sheriff, Artesia and Carlsbad police, NMCD, Adult Probation and Parole, ICE, and the Marshals Service. Its movement categories also include ASU, DOC, ICE, USMARSHAL, rehabilitation placements, and other counties. A code is not the final record. Compare it with the release packet and the receiving system before describing the outcome.
Community release also needs precise wording. Bond or a conditions-of-release order ends physical detention while the criminal case continues. Time served ends the custodial part recorded for that sentence, though another case or form of supervision may remain. A dismissal can remove one detention basis without resolving a separate warrant or hold. Alternative placement changes the setting. These distinctions are why the booking date should be paired with the order or record that explains it.
Confirm an ECDC Release
The official detention page directs the public to Eddy County’s detainee lookup. That portal can search more than the people held today. It supports a name, an arrest-date range, a release-date range, and a prior “In Custody On” date. The current configuration displays the name, mugshot, race, sex, cell block, arrest date, held-for agency, and release date. It does not display charge information or an explicit release reason.

- Record the booking-specific arrest date, release date, held-for agency, and any movement code. Use another identifier for a common name.
- Check the correct New Mexico court case for the release order, dismissal, sentence, bond, or conditions.
- Request the jail release record when the reason or destination is unclear.
- Continue in NMCD, ICE, BOP, another county, or the court system when the source record points there.
A negative current-roster search proves little. Released people often leave a live list, while an old booking may still be reached with the historical filters. County records and court records answer different questions. The jail entry supplies local processing facts. The signed court filing supplies legal authority. The receiving agency controls whether custody continued after ECDC closed its entry.

ECDC Release Records Contact
Contact the operational jail when a release procedure or current booking needs direct confirmation. Administration is listed Monday through Thursday. The county also identifies a transport extension, but that line concerns secure inmate transport and should not be treated as a ride-home service. No official release hours, public exit, property pickup method, family waiting place, weekend rule, or home-transport policy was found. Ask about the specific booking rather than relying on a generic jail practice.

A complete responsive record may contain more than the public portal shows. The exact contents depend on the booking, so each field must be confirmed in what the county produces. These are the supported categories to request:

A release date can precede or follow a related court entry because an order and physical processing are not the same act. If dates conflict, label each event. Do not silently choose one. New Mexico’s general schedule, NMAC 1.21.2.902, identifies a five-year period from file closure for jail inmate files, but it does not promise five years of online portal display.
The public entry and the official file are separate access layers. An older booking may be absent from the vendor screen while the county still holds a responsive file. Conversely, an entry that remains visible may lack the destination or legal basis needed for a sound conclusion. A narrow request made while the identifiers are known gives the custodian the best chance to locate the correct episode and explain any withheld field.
ECDC Transfer Release Codes
Eddy County’s portal categories make local release interpretation unusually important. An NMCD or DOC clue calls for the NMCD offender search. Allow for agency processing, use “Include Inactive” when appropriate, and verify with the institution or probation and parole office. An ICE clue calls for the ICE detainee locator, which covers current detainees and recent ICE releases within its stated window. A USMS entry lacks a public Marshals historical locator, so federal court records or BOP may be needed based on the case stage.
These categories do not prove that Eddy County has a standing ICE or Marshals contract. They show only that the public jail data anticipates those agencies or destinations. Likewise, an ASU code does not establish unconditional sentence completion. It can mark a move from the jail building into a court-directed community program. The complex includes adult male, adult female, juvenile, and administrative functions. No sourced population or annual-release figure was published in the reviewed material, so a capacity or release statistic should not be inferred. The county states that ECDC handles in-county and out-of-county inmate transportation. That role helps explain why a local booking can end through transport, not just a walk-out release.
Future ECDC Release Point
Eddy County broke ground in 2026 for a replacement detention center at 1501 Corrales Drive. The project is not the operational jail. Until the county posts a move announcement, current release calls, records questions, and public contact remain tied to 201 N. Main Street. Treat Corrales Drive as a future location, not a place to meet someone or verify today’s release.
